MARSHALLTOWN — The Marshalltown Police Department has identified a man shot and killed by police, as well as the officers involved in the shooting.
A department news release says 25-year-old Andrew Jay Worsfold, of Marshalltown, was shot and killed by police early Wednesday. Police say the shooting happened just before 4 a.m. Wednesday, when Marshalltown Officers Ramon Maxey and Benjamin Scheevel encountered Worsfold, who they say was armed with a handgun. Neither officer was injured.
Police say the 49-year-old Maxey is a six-year veteran of the department. The 23-year-old Scheevel has served as a police officer less than a year.
Investigators have not said whether one or both of the officers shot Worsfold. Both officers have been placed on paid administrative leave, per department policy, while authorities investigate the shooting.
