Monroe bowlers notch high series, 300 games

MONROE — Pins have been falling hard at Mustang Lanes this bowling season. The two men’s leagues have recorded two 300 games and a 800 series.

Brandon Lent, who is 22, came close to 300 game, but was one pin off. Lent, who bowls for H&R Block in the Monroe Men’s City League, threw a 299 in the first game. He went on to post a 813 series on the night.

“I was a little nervous in that first game, getting close to a 300,” Lent said. “This is my highest series I’ve bowled. I’ve been bowling since I could roll a bowling ball.”

There must be some bowling magic in bowling on the Raider Poker.net team. Two members of the team, which bowls in the Monroe Merchants League, put up 300 games this season.

Jesse Hopkins produced his third career 300.

“It’s still nerve wracking,” Hopkins said of bowling a 300. “I’ve been bowling since I was five and I’m 31 now.”

Joe Illingworth, who is 33, posted his first 300 game. He, too, has been bowling since he was 5.

“I wasn’t nervous since there have been so many times I’ve blown it, I just thought it had to be easier to get it,” Illingworth said.
