The Morgan Family Christmas concert coming to First Christian Church

A Homestyle Family Christmas featuring The Phil and Pam Morgan Family will take over the First Christian Church, 314 E. Second St. N., at 4 p.m. Sunday. As a part of the family’s annual tour, the concert will consist of the group’s close family harmony and instrumental talent to bring a fresh sound to both classic and contemporary Christmas carols. 4 His Grace Quartet from Newton will also perform at the concert.

Modeled after the classic Christmas television variety shows of the past, the sanctuary will be converted into a giant living room with special guests stopping by to share special holiday memories and join in a song. The door will open at 3:30 p.m. and seating is on a first come basis. An offering will be taken to suppose the Morgan’s ministry efforts for 2015.

Both from Kansas City, Phil and Pam met almost 30 years ago in a music store after a performance. Just a few weeks later, they had their first date after Pam had been stood up by one of Phil’s friends. With music being such an important part of their lives, it was no surprise that while down on one knee, Phil sang “Will you marry me?” The two were married and had two children, Kayla in 1995 and Alisha in 1998.

Having attended church growing up, the couples own ministry started to take root in 1996 with their first recording project “Faith, Hope & Love.” The family began traveling to spread God’s message and in 1997 started a larger concert schedule, along with a weekly radio program. Two recordings were released “Gospel Favorites Live and “Merry Christmas.”

In 1999, Phil recorded his first record in Nashville “What Matters Most,” which was a collection of songs focused on what God wants our priorities to be. Starting in 2000, the family made the ministry their full-time job. After the release of their latest album, the group was booked solid for concerts every weekend.

The family took a 15 month break from touring after Pam was involved in an accident that almost took her life and left her disabled. She has since recovered to a great degree and both her and Phil have used the experience in their ministry. “Living Proof” was the next album released exactly one year after Pam’s accident with a tour to follow.

In the following years, the group released eight albums, two videos and three books. They continued to tour across the United States and have added conferences to their busy schedule to help reach more people with their message of God’s hope, love and faithfulness.
