Mustangs grapplers go 3-0 at West Central Valley

STUART — Chace Palm, Xavier Miller and Ron Marshall all went 3-0 while Tristen Clark, Leevi Telfer and Lane Raske also went undefeated Thursday during the Prairie City-Monroe wrestling team’s quadrangular at West Central Valley.

Marshall won all three of his matches by pin, while Palm and Miller were both given a pair of forfeits as the Mustangs went 3-0 on the night.

PCM improved to 4-1 on the season following wins over Guthrie Center, Nodaway Valley and West Central Valley. The Mustangs beat the Tigers 48-36, bested the Wolverines 58-23 and downed the host Wildcats 48-30.

Jaret Maggard, Mike Fagg and Trent Malone all went 2-1 on the night, while Telfer was given two forfeits at 220.

The Mustangs opened their dual with Guthrie Center with four straight forfeit wins. The Tigers rallied to win the next four matches — one by fall and three by forfeit — to even the score at 24-all and then Marshall and Austin Laabs traded falls at 170 and 182, respectively, to keep the score tied.

It remained even at 36-all following a forfeit win by each team and then the Mustangs pulled ahead for good with back-to-back pins by Malone and Palm at 285 and 106, respectively.

The Mustangs jumped out to an 18-0 lead on Nodaway Valley after three straight forfeits. Miller pushed the margin to 22-0 following a major decision at 126 and then PCM won the final five matches of the dual to win going away.

Marshall and Fagg both recorded pins, while Telfer and Malone were each handed forfeits.

Just like the first two duals, the Mustangs got a quick start against the host school. PCM won four of the first five bouts. Included in that stretch was a pin from Clark, who starts the season ranked No. 7 at 126 by the Predicament.

James Maggard, Marshall, Jaret Maggard and Telfer all won bonus points later to help the Mustangs cruise. James Maggard and Telfer won by forfeit and Marshall and Jaret Maggard recorded back-to-back first-period falls at 170 and 182, respectively.

PCM (4-1) wrestles at the Bondurant-Farrar Invitational on Saturday. Action begins at 9 a.m.
