PCM can only rally once in road split

ALLEMAN — The Prairie City-Monroe wrestling team faced two different deficits during the early stages of its season-opening duals against host North Polk and East Marshall/GMG here Tuesday.

The Mustangs trailed North Polk 18-0 and 24-6 before rallying with five straight wins and an eventual dual-clinching pin at 170 pounds during a 36-33 win.

PCM also trailed East Marshall/GMG 21-6 in its other dual.

This time though, the other Mustangs controlled the later matches and won going away, 55-24.

Against North Polk, the Mustangs (1-1, 1-0) suffered three consecutive losses by fall to open the dual, but PCM got an overtime win from heavyweight Trent Malone and Chace Palm also won by decision at 106.

After Chase Erickson was given a forfeit by PCM at 113, the Mustangs rolled off five straight wins, including a Tristen Clark pin, two forfeits and another win by decision from James Maggard.

North Polk again put itself in prime position to score the win with back-to-back victories at 152 and 160, but Ron Marshall ended the night with a first-period pin at 170 and that secured the victory for the Mustangs.

East Marshall/GMG started strong against PCM and then put away the Mustangs for good with six straight wins starting with Steven Proffitt’s win by fall.

Wins by PCM against East Marshall came from Malone (forfeit) at heavyweight, Brady Fritz (win by fall) at 106, Xavier Miller (forfeit) at 120 and Jaret Maggard’s 25-second pin at 182.

Malone, Miller and Clark all went 2-0 on the day for the Mustangs, who will battle in a tough tourrnament at Bondurant-Farrar at 9 a.m. Saturday.
