The State Historical Society of Iowa recognized the people who nominated two Iowa sites to the National Park Service’s National Underground Railroad Network to Freedom during a ceremony Nov. 13 at the State Historical Museum in Des Moines. Iowa Freedom Trail Project Manager Douglas W. Jones, of Mitchellville, left, is pictured with Larry Hurto, of Newton, who was honored for his successful July 9 nomination of Wittemberg Church and Cemetery to the NTF program. There are now 13 recognized NTF sites in Iowa.
