Iowa cashier used bat to stop robbery

COUNCIL BLUFFS — Authorities say a cashier used a baseball bat to thwart an attempted robbery at a convenience store in Council Bluffs.

Council Bluffs police say a suspect with a large wrench entered a Kum & Go store shortly before 3 a.m. Thursday. A cashier told authorities the male suspect demanded money. Police say the cashier instead grabbed a baseball bat and told the suspect to leave. The cashier swung at the suspect but never hit the man.

The suspect, who is accused of throwing items at the cashier, eventually fled on foot. Police say they’re looking for the suspect.
