Loebsack a champion for college students

Phyllis Weeks
Knoxville

As a grandparent of two students with student loans, I believe there is only one right choice to represent Iowa’s second district in Congress — Dave Loebsack.

We need to invest in our children by making college more affordable. No child should ever be denied the opportunity to receive a higher education for financial reasons. On the House Education and Workforce Committee, Dave Loebsack has championed commonsense solutions to address the student loan crisis. He helped to pass the College Cost Reduction and Access Act to make college more affordable and accessible, and cosponsored the Student Aid and Fiscal Responsibility Act to make the student loan process more efficient.

Rep. Loebsack is a former educator and a parent. He understands these issues and makes them a priority. Marionette Miller-Meeks, on the other hand, barely talks about education policy. In fact, she arranged to have a private fundraiser with Rick Perry in August, the same Rick Perry who suggested that we abolish the Department of Education. I have little faith in radical conservatives who want to dismantle our education system, but fail to offer any policy ideas to tackle our pressing education challenges.

So if you’re a parent or a grandparent who is concerned about the growing cost of college, a student with loans, or a citizen who wants solutions instead of silence, I urge you to vote for Dave Loebsack on Nov. 4.
