Historical society sells Cedar Falls landmark house

CEDAR FALLS — The Cedar Falls Historical Society has sold a landmark house to a couple who will live upstairs and use the main floor for a business.

The historical society sold the George Wyth House to Blake and Laurie Conover after listing the house for sale last summer. After being given the house in 1979, the organization used it as a museum for a number of years but more recently hadn’t been able to find a use for the structure.

The Cedar Falls house was built in 1907.

and became home to George and Alice Wyth and their children in 1925. George Wyth helped start Viking Pump Co. and was the company’s president for 40 years.

The Conovers, of Waverly, closed on the house Wednesday night and said they would begin living in the top floors in October.

Blake Conover is president of 1Vision, a fundraising and development business that works with nonprofit businesses. The company will operate on the main floor of the house.

The historical society listed the house for $325,000, but neither party would disclose the sale price.
