Miss Iowa USA, Miss Iowa Teen USA pageants return to Newton

The 2015 Miss Iowa USA and Miss Iowa Teen USA pageants are slated to take place at Newton Senior High School the weekend of Oct. 11 and 12.

The pageants are the official state preliminary pageants to the national Miss USA and Miss Teen USA pageants. The newly crowned Miss Iowa USA will advance to compete in the nationally televised Miss USA pageant live on NBC next spring. In addition, if she were to be named the new Miss USA, she will go on to represent the United States in the Miss Universe competition, which is televised in over 190 countries worldwide on NBC-Universal Television.

“We are thrilled to be bringing back such a high-profile and internationally recognized event back to the community of Newton,” said pageant executive co-director Denise Wallace.

Wallace’s organization, Future Productions, which is the licensed producer of the state event, is working closely with NHS, the Newton Convention & Visitors Bureau, as well local hotels and restaurants to make sure the nearly 1000 visitors they expect in Newton for the pageant will have a pleasant stay.

“We’re excited to welcome for the fourth year in a row the pageant organizers, participants and their friends and family to Newton,” said Linda Bacon, executive director of the Newton Convention & Visitors Bureau.

The pageant consists of three equally scored areas of competition: evening gown, swimwear and interview. Eligible young women must be between the ages of 14 and 26 and be unmarried residents of Iowa in order to compete in the pageant. The pageant draws young women from all across the state of Iowa, and Future Productions is currently accepting applications.

“Women from opposite ends of Iowa will join together in Newton this fall to participate in this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” Wallace said. “The new titleholders will each receive thousands of dollars in college scholarships, prizes and awards. Most importantly, they will serve as representatives for young women in Iowa by forging alliances with charitable organizations and civic groups.”

In an action-packed show, current titleholders Amanda Armstrong, Miss Iowa Teen USA 2014, of Sioux City, and Carlyn Bradarich, Miss Iowa USA 2014, of Iowa City, will crown the new winners. Tickets will be available to the public for purchase for both the preliminary show and finals show closer to the pageant dates.

“The community of Newton has been extremely welcoming of an event that recognizes young women and we invite all residents to join us for this exciting event,” Wallace said.
