Newton man facing multiple drug-related charges

A Newton man faces several drug charges following an investigation by the Mid-Iowa Narcotics Enforcement Task Force.

Members of the task force and the Newton Police Department executed a search warrant following a traffic stop at approximately 10:40 p.m. Monday in the 300 block of East Third Street South in Newton.

As a result of the search, Jeremy John Jones, 22, of Newton was charged with possession of methamphetamine with intent to deliver less than 5 grams, a Class C felony; possession with intent to deliver marijuana, Class D felony; and possession of drug paraphernalia, a simple misdemeanor.

A Class C felony is punishable to a maximum sentence of 10 years in a state prison, a Class D felony is punishable to a maximum five years in a state prison and a simple misdemeanor carries a maximum sentence of 30 days in a county jail. Jones is being held in the Jasper County Jail on a $25,000 bond.

The Mid-Iowa Narcotics Enforcement Task Force is based in Des Moines and currently has 15 central Iowa agencies participating in the task force, including the Jasper and Marion County sheriff’s offices and Knoxville, Newton and Pella police departments.
