The Rev. John A. Thorpe will soon be leaving St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Newton.

Thorpe has been Rector of the parish since July 2008 and has been active in the Newton Area Ministerial Association, the Jasper County Evangelical Ministers’ Alliance, the Newton Rotary Club and Jasper County Kids Against Hunger.

His wife, Beth, and three children have been active in the Newton homeschool group, the Newton Public Library, and the AWANA program at Immanuel Baptist Church.

Thorpe has accepted a job as the chaplain of St. John’s Episcopal School in Dallas, Texas. His last Sunday at St. Stephen’s will be Sunday. The church is located at 223 E. Fourth St. N. in Newton.

He will also be preaching at The River church, which meets at Bridgehouse Coffee Co. that evening.
