Michener, military honored tonight

Levi Michener made his decision. He decided to forgo his senior season of Newton baseball to go into the U.S. Marines. Tonight, Michener will be honored along with other active and retired military personnel at the Cardinals’ Military Appreciation Night.

The Cardinals will recognize Michener before tonight’s varsity contest against Saydel at Woodland Park’s Eversman Field. The game begins at 7:30 p.m.

All active or retired military personnel will be admitted free to the game. Military members will be asked to join the Cardinal varsity team on the field during the singing of the National Anthem.

Newton’s mascot “Big Red” is excepted to help hand out miniature American flags to fans. Newton’s players will wear special camouflage baseball caps with the Newton N logo on them for the game.

The NHS junior varsity plays at 5:30 p.m.
