Fourth of July Fireworks in Newton

The Newton Parks Department will host its annual Fourth of July fireworks display from Agnes Patterson Park. The show will be launched from the northwest corner of the park starting at dusk Friday.

Games and Activities

Parks board members, staff and volunteers have planned several fun activities from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the park. These activities include inflatables, several games, live music and food vendors.

At 8:30 p.m., the activities and games will end, so families can regroup and prepare to watch the fireworks.

Shortly before the fireworks begin, the national anthem will be performed by a local high school student.

Access to the Park

Much of Agnes Patterson Park will be closed on Friday until 6 p.m. for safety reasons. Access to the south parking lot will only be granted to individuals playing in the sand volleyball tournament prior to 6 p.m.

All traffic must enter the park from North Fourth Avenue East. The east entrance will remain closed until the event is over. Once the parking lots are full, vehicle access to the park will be restricted.

The bike trail entering the park from the northwest will remain closed all day.

Additional Parking

Event-goers may park in the Berg neighborhood and access the park after 6 p.m. via the bike trails on the southwest side of the park. Berg Elementary/Middle School is less than a half mile walk from the park with ample parking available.

Parking will also be allowed on North 11th Avenue East, but no access to the park will be granted from the road. There will be no parking along East 31st Street North/Beltline Road.

The Newton Police Department will be enforcing parking restrictions the night of the event.

Safety Zone

All event-goers will be required to avoid the fireworks safety zone area at the northwest corner of the park. The setback area includes the northwest trail entrance and the two northwest soccer fields. The zone will be marked with signs and the public must stay out of this area at all times.

Tips for a fun evening

For those planning to park within Agnes Patterson Park, carpooling is highly advised. After the event, people are asked to remove all personal items and trash from the park. Help promote the event to your family and friends. Park staff will be updating the Newton Parks and Recreation Facebook page throughout the day with any important event related announcements — weather cancellations, parking updates or other information.
