Rasmusson throws no-hitter for Hawk softball team

SULLY — Junior Madison Rasmusson notched her seventh career no-hitter Wednesday night. Rasmusson pitched four scoreless innings in a 12-0, run-rule win for Iowa Class 1A second-ranked Lynnville-Sully’s Hawks against Montezuma.

It was the first no-hitter of the season for the Hawk ace pitcher. She issued one walk and struck out three.

Lynnville-Sully scored 10 runs in the third, highlighted by a home run by Shelby Davis. The Hawks added two runs in the fourth to close out the South Iowa Cedar League game in four innings.

Jade Van Rees connected for a single and a double. Becca Vos hit a double. Hitting a single each were Kasiah Ehresman, Brenna Lanser, Shaylin Lukehart and Kristin VanderWilt.

In the second game, Rasmusson limited the Braves to two hits in a 17-1 romp for the Hawks. Rasmusson has a earned run average of 0.61 in 23 games. Opposing teams are hitting .163 against her. She is sixth in Iowa Class 1A with 109 strikeouts.

Rasmusson struck out seven Montezuma batters in the nightcap and walked one. Rasmusson and the Hawks are 22-1 on the season.

Lynnville-Sully’s offense was led by Vos with a single and a double. Ehresman and Rasmusson each hit two singles. Davis, Lukehart, Kristal  Beyer, Jelissa Rozendaal and VanderWilt each had a single.

The Hawks travel to North Mahaska Friday.
