PCM wins 10th

HOIC game

GILBERT — PCM earned its fifth road win of the year Wednesday night with a 6-2 victory over Gilbert.

Freshman Jayci Vos and senior Abigail Gilson led the Mustangs offensively. Vos went 3-for-4 with one RBI and three stolen bases. Gilson finished 2-for-3 and drove in her team-leading 17th and 18th runs of the season. Katie VandeWall added a triple.

Racheal Freland picked up her seventh win in the circle for PCM (12-4). The junior struck out five.

CMB comeback falls short

SAYDEL — Collins-Maxwell/Baxter’s comeback effort against Saydel fell just short Wednesday night.

Trailing 5-3 in the top of the seventh with two outs and two runners on base, CMB’s Mikayla Eslinger hit a ball to deep center field that was caught in front of the fence for the game’s final out.

The Raiders were threatening after a pair of two-out walks and an RBI-single from Abbey Appelgate cut into what was Saydel’s 5-2 lead at the beginning of the seventh.

Heather Jessen suffered the loss in the circle after Saydel broke a 2-all tie in the bottom of the sixth by scoring three runs. Jessen allowed eight hits and walked two. She also had three strikeouts.

CMB (7-9) tied the game twice. Taylor Ross singled home Avery Hlavacek to tie the game at 1 in the fifth and then, after Saydel took a 2-1 lead in the bottom half, Veronica Condon singled home Eslinger for a 2-2 score in the sixth.

Condon and Mackenzie Schmitz both finished with two hits.

The loss was the Raiders eighth defeat in nine road games this season.
