Lynnville-Sully notches three more wins

SULLY — Lynnville-Sully’s softball team boasts a .399 team batting average. The Hawks’ ace, Madison Rasmusson, has a 0.40 earned run average, which is in the top 10 of Class 1A.

The Hawks moved to 9-1 over the weekend. They powered past South Iowa Cedar League foe Keota, 12-2 and 11-0, on Friday. That put Lynnville-Sully at 6-0 in league play.

On Saturday, the Class 1A third-ranked Hawks outlasted Knoxville, a Class 4A team, 2-1 in the Oskaloosa Invitational. The remainder of the tournament was rained out.

Against Knoxville, the Hawks and Panthers played two scoreless innings then the Panthers scored in the third. Trailing 1-0, the Hawks produced two runs in the top of the fifth and held on for the win.

Rasmusson, who has been in the circle all 10 games for the Hawks, limited Knoxville to five hits, walked two and struck out three. She also scored a run and drove in a run on a triple.

Kasiah Ehresman went 3-for-3 with three singles. Becca Vos and Brenna Lanser each had a double and Kristal Beyer singled.

On Friday at Keota, the Hawks won the opener, 11-0, in six innings. They led 2-0 after four then added four runs in the fifth and five in the sixth. Rasmusson recorded seven strikeouts and gave up two hits in the game.

Ehresman had three singles. Beyer doubled and singled. Shaylin Lukehart, Jade Van Rees and Rasmusson had two singles each. Vos doubled. Shelby Davis and Lanser each had single.

Lynnville-Sully decked Keota, 12-2, in five innings in the second contest. Bayli Van Manen went 3-for-3 with three singles and Rasmusson had two singles. Lukehart and Rachel Van Wyk each doubled. Hitting a single each were Ehresman, Vos, and Kristin VanderWilt.

Rasmusson threw a four-hit shutout. She struck out four. In 10 games, Rasmusson has notched 38 strikeouts.
