Dallas E. Hillyard

Dallas E. Hillyard, 77, of Newton died Wednesday, May 14, 2014, at Skiff Medical Center. A service will be on a later date at the Iowa Veteran’s Cemetery in Van Meter. Memorials in Dallas’ name may be left at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory.

Dallas, the son of Lloyd and Beryl (Flint) Hillyard, was born on April 16, 1937, in New Hampton, Mo. He grew up in Bethany, Mo., and graduated from Bethany High School in 1955. On Oct. 1, 1960, Dallas was united in marriage with Jacqueline “Jackie” Packard in Moulton. He was then drafted into the U.S. Army and served in Fort Lewis, Wash., for 9 months. He and Jackie later made their home in Waterloo. In Waterloo, Dallas worked as a real estate broker, appraiser and a Wausau Home dealer, retiring in 1979. Upon retirement, they made their home in Centerville until 2000, when they moved to Newton. Dallas was a member of the VFW Post 1655. He enjoyed playing video poker at Prairie Meadows and spending time with his family.

Dallas is survived by his wife, Jacqueline “Jackie” Hillyard of Newton; children, Jill (Rick) Metzger of Allerton and Don (Suzanne) Hillyard of Newton; his grandchildren, Rachel (Tyler) Wilson, Megan (Dillon) Horton, Madigan Hillyard and Cydney Hillyard; great-grandchildren, Jordyn, Charlee and Kennedy; his siblings, Richard (Rosetta) Hillyard and Carol (Robert) Hodges of Bethany, Mo.; and his many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Duane and Eugene Hillyard.
