Celebrate National Nursing Home Week by visiting nursing homes

To the editor:

This is National Nursing Home Week. We at Careage of Newton would like to take this opportunity to thank family and friends for all that they do to improve the quality of life for our residents.

Thank you to the musicians who take time out to entertain and to the groups who provide bingo prizes and gifts at holidays. Thank you to the churches who offer worship services nearly every Sunday. Thank you to the schools and the Cub Scouts. Children are such a wonderful source of joy. Thank you to JCARL who bring pets. Thank you all for the big and little things you do to bring a smile to faces of our residents. It means so much to them.

We would like to offer an open invitation to individuals, clubs, schools and churches.  Many of our residents have no visitors. If you find yourself with time on your hands, give us a call or stop by. There is always a project going on that needs your special touch. Maybe you could call bingo or read or help a resident write a letter. Maybe you could hold a resident’s hand or look at their family photos. Do you have a talent? A hobby? A story to tell? No particular skills are needed — just a kind heart. “Those who bring sunshine to the lives of others cannot keep it from themselves.”  — James Matthew Barrie

Thank you so much!
