Tornado Ready

As severe weather season approaches, more Iowans are taking precautionary measures. Mel Allen, a former Iowa State Trooper, and his wife, Carmen, are having a tornado shelter installed in there home in southeastern Newton. Mel estimated during his time as a trooper, he saw between 14 and 17 tornadoes in person, and he has been very cautious of them ever since. Ground Zero Storm Shelters of Perry, Okla., installed the shelter for the Allens’ in about five hours on Monday afternoon.
