Newton Trap Team competes

SEARSBORO — Combining to hit 163 clay targets out of 250, Newton Trap Team’s varsity squad placed 10th at Saturday’s high school trap meet hosted by Montezuma. The meet was held at Big Springs Range.

Derek Damman, Eric Hodge, Jake Arrowood, Chase Urias and Bryce Romick were on the line for Newton’s varsity. Romick broke 37 of 50 targets, placing him 27th out of 122 shooters in the male division.

Newton’s junior varsity team of Chaz Ridenour, Logan Zaabel, Clay Trotter and Michael Blom finished 21st, with a score of 123 targets out of 250.

There were 22 five-person squads in the competition. Newton competed agaisnt Montezuma, Grinnell, B-G-M, Pella, North Mahaska, Knoxville, Sigourney and Albia.

Newton hosts a trap meet this Saturday at the Jasper County Gun Club.
