Area high school golf teams hit the links

Area high school golf teams competed in their first meets Monday. Pella Christian’s boys took on Pella Community High School’s boys at Oskaloosa. Lynnville-Sully’s boys and girls got into the swing of things at Montezuma and the Colfax-Mingo teams were at Saydel.

Pella Christian boys

OSKALOOSA — Mason Howerzyl shot a 37 to earn the top medalist honors for Pella Christian’s Eagles in a golf duel meet with Pella’s Little Dutch Monday.

The Dutch won the meet with a 160 while the Eagles shot a 172 on the Edmundson Golf Club course in Oskaloosa.

The Eagles’ Justin Stravers finished with a 42 for the nine-hole competition. Graham Howerzyl ended up with a 46 followed by Jason Holwerda at 47, Josh Posthuma at 48 and Jordan Pleima at 49.

The Pella Christian junior varsity golf team lost, 213-197. Mitch Fopma and Lance DeZwarte led the Eagle JV with 52s.

Lynnville-Sully’s Hawks

MONTEZUMA — Lynnville-Sully’s Macy Lanser earned the second-place medal in the girls’ division as the Hawk girls took second to North Mahaska. North Mahaska had a team score of 194 to Lynnville-Sully’s 242.

Mack Fuller led North Mahaska, winning the individual medalist honors with a 45. Lanser had a 46. Lynnville-Sully’s Haley Hood shot a 51 followed by Lindsey Hood with a 72 and Kaylee Van Maanen at 73.

The Hawk boys finished third with a 188. North Mahaska won the boys’ division with a 176 and Montezuma was second at 186.

Leading the Hawks were Baker Zegers and Ben Trettin, each shooting a 43. Bayley Morvant finished with a 48 followed by Caleb Morvant with a 51, John Trettin at 54, Luke Jones with a  58 and Connor Fraker at 62.

Colfax-Mingo Tigerhawks

SAYDEL — Colfax-Mingo’s boys had the top four scores in the triangular golf meet hosted by Saydel. Jimmy Abell turned in a meet-low score of 37 with Mason Mosher at 43, McCauley Mosher at 44 and Zevin Lander at 45.

The Tigerhawk boys won with a team score of 169. Saydel finished up with a 186 followed by Southeast Warren at 318.

Colfax-Mingo’s Adam Teed and Jake Jeter each shot a 56.

Colfax-Mingo’s Olivia Maggard claimed top honors in the girls’ division with a 55. Skye Weber carded an 80 for the Tigerhawk girls.
