The Central Iowa Division of the Naval Sea Cadet Corps is hosting a new member informational open house at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 15, in the Altoona Public Library Room 2, 700 Eighth St. SW in Altoona. Parents and prospective cadets are invited.

Sea Cadets is a leadership and adventure program for youth ages 11 to 17 that have a desire to learn about the Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard and Merchant Marine. Depending on the rate achieved in the Naval Sea Cadets, former cadets may be eligible to enlist in the armed forces at an advanced pay grade. Being a member honorably discharged from the Sea Cadet Corps is looked upon favorably by selection boards for military academies and ROTC programs.

Those interested in enrollment should bring a copy of their immunization record and have the prospective cadet’s social security number available.
