C-M’s Brandon Byal and CMB’s Dawson Dahlke tangle in the 285-pound match at Colfax Thursday. Dahlke picked up the win, giving CMB a 40-36 dual victory over the Tigerhawks.

COLFAX — In a heated dual between Heart of Iowa Conference rivals, Collins-Maxwell/Baxter defeated the Colfax-Mingo Tigerhawks on C-M’s Senior Night. A win in the closing, 285-pound bout by Dawson Dahlke sealed the 40-36 win for the Raiders.

The Tigerhawks took down Southeast Webster-Grand, which also made the trip to Colfax, 36-24. CMB overcame the Eagles, 40-18.

Brett Stevens, Zach Hartgers, MacCauley Mosher, Brandon Byal, Cody Brodka and Colton Harmison were the Tigerhawk seniors honored for their achievements. Stevens, Mosher, Byal, Brodka and Harmison each picked up victories for the Tigerhawks.

“Our goal tonight was to win the majority of matches wrestled and we did that,” C-M coach Bryan Poulter said. “I liked how aggressive we looked tonight. We honored the seniors tonight, and I thought it was a fitting effort for the evening. Brett Stevens and MacCauley Mosher both recorded two pins each night. It will be a senior night they will remember for a long time. As we near the end of the season, the increase of intensity is a welcomed sign.”

Stevens kicked off the night by pinning CMB’s Jake Hennick in 5 minutes, 19 seconds. Evan Bianchi got the Raiders on the board by pinning Harmison in 4:59. Brodka won the 160-pound match with a pin of Blake Coughenour in 1:27. Mosher pinned CMB’s Dylan Williams in 1:29. Dahlke won the heavyweight matchup by major decision, 15-7, against Byal. All remaining points were awarded from forfeitures.

“I felt that CMB kids wrestled hard and focused against C-M. We had good aggressive matches at 120, 138, and 285,” CMB coach Joe Bartello said. “Our efforts paid off with a win over C-M as a team, but when both teams struggle with numbers as we have, we try and focus on each individual wrestler. We had great efforts made by the kids and everyone of them pushed themselves on the mat win or lose, and for that I am proud of them.”

Against Southeast Webster-Grant, the Raiders took a majority of the matches in which they had a wrestler competing. Beau Iske (126) took down Caleb Rodenborn with a pin at 0:52. Bianchi got a pin of Caleb Hemmestad in 4:06. Shane White (170) pinned Ryan Collen in 0:36. Dylan Williams pinned Tristan Troutwine in 1:06.

“I felt we continued to wrestle well tonight in our second dual,” Bartello said. “I felt Beau Iske, Evan Bianchi, Shane White all had good, aggressive matches, which resulted in a win. I was very impressed with the efforts of our 195-pounder Dylan Williams, who got a pin for us.”

Capping off the night was C-M’s win over the Eagles. Stevens took down Rodenborn in 0:40. Harmison got a pin on Hemmestad in 0:24. Mosher pinned Troutwine in 0:23, and Byal pinned Tony Crampton in 1:09.

Both CMB and C-M wrestle Saturday at the HOI conference tournament at South Hamilton in Jewell.
