Three Hawks seniors claim SICL honors

SULLY — Lynnville-Sully had a senior trio net postseason volleyball honors from South Iowa Cedar League coaches. The 2013 All-SICL teams were recently announced.

Cassie Cullen, the Hawks’  5-11 senior middle hitter, was named to the All-South Iowa Cedar League First Team. Seniors Macy Lanser, a 5-9 outside hitter, and Jade Van Reese, the Hawks’ 5-4 setter, received league honorable mention.

Lynnville-Sully finished right in the middle — 5-5 — in the 11-team SICL. The Hawks ended up at 10-15 overall, and went 1-1 in Class 1A regional tournament play.

Cullen, who received league honorable mention as a junior, led Lynnville-Sully with 251 kills, which was third in the South Iowa Cedar League.

In three seasons on the Hawk varsity team, Cullen piled up 471 kills.

Cullen finished as the Hawks’ leader in digs, 205, this season, bringing her three-season total to 327 digs. She was 11th in digs for the league. Cullen made six solo blocks and had 14 assisted blocks at the net.

Cullen and Lanser tied as leader in service aces for the team this season with 38 aces apiece. They were tied at 10th on the SICL’s serving ace list. Cullen was a 91-percent server, 193-of-212. Cullen finished with a three-year total of 124 ace serves.

Lanser went 170-of-198 serving the volleyball for an 85.9-percent clip. She was fourth on the team in digs with 177, giving her a two-year varsity total of 247. Lanser had 53 kills and nine block assists.

Van Rees was a steady force for two years as the Hawks’ setter. She put up 475 set assists in 2013, which was fifth in the SICL. Van Rees, who earned league honorable mention for the second straight year, has a two-year total of 939 set assists for Lynnville-Sully.

Van Rees came up with 166 digs, pushing her varsity total to 302 over two years. She also had 36 ace serves for a two-year total of 102. Van Rees went 202-of-228, 88.6-percent, from the service line. She had 21 kills and five block assists at the net.
