Jasper County Relay for Life gearing up for next year

The Jasper County Relay for Life is gearing up and starting to organize teams and start fundraising.

One hundred years ago, the American Cancer Society began the fight of a lifetime — the fight against cancer. As a global grassroots force of more than three million volunteers, the society has been the leader in the fight to end breast cancer and all cancers. As the biggest private, not-for-profit investor in cancer research, the American Cancer Society contributed to a 20 percent decline in overall cancer death rates in the U.S. since the early 1990s. During the last century, the organization has saved lives by:

• Helping people stay well by showing them steps they can take to reduce their cancer risk or find it early.

• Helping people get well by providing resources and support to help them through every step of a cancer experience.

• Finding cures by investing in groundbreaking research.

• Fighting back by working with legislators to pass laws to defeat cancer and by rallying communities worldwide to finish the fight.

For more than 65 years, the American Cancer Society research program has been finding the answers to understand how to prevent, detect and treat all cancer types, including breast cancer.
