Capitol II owners thankful for support; digital needed soon

To the editor:

We would like to thank the community for their generous donations to support the theater in converting to digital and for giving Kathryn Koob a warm welcome this past Sunday during our Argo/Kathryn Koob Special Event. We had approximately 200 people turn out.

This event couldn’t have happened at a better time as we are really feeling the squeeze from the Studios in getting converted over to digital.

Just this week a couple of studios have informed us they are no longer making 35 mm films, one studio informed us they will only be offering digital movies in the Fall 2014 and then the others are making fewer 35 mm so it’s harder to get their movies.

Many have asked if we have raised enough funds to convert to digital. The answer is, No we have not. But we are not discouraged.

The community has been amazing in supporting the theater by staying local and being creative in using the facility which brings in extra funds. We also have wonderful people who spend countless hours giving of their time so we can put every dollar possible towards the digital projectors.

So our plan is to move forward to convert to digital and keep doing what we are doing as we feel strongly that Newton needs a movie theater in town.

We do not have a firm date in mind as to when the conversion will take place yet but we are getting closer to making that decision.

Thank you, again, for your continued support.
