Howard A. Mikkelson

Howard A. Mikkelson, 85, died Oct. 18, 2013, at Careage of Newton. A celebration of life for Howard will be held at Johnson Funeral Service, 315 E. Third St. N., Newton, at a later date.

Howard was born Sept. 4, 1928, in Marshalltown, to Edward and Mary (Martin) Mikkelson. Howard’s childhood years were spent on various farms in the New Providence/Marshalltown areas and Eagle River, Wis. He was a graduate of New Providence schools and attended Iowa State University. On June 2, 1951, he  married Irene Frizell. He worked as a dairy farm DHIA supervisor testing butterfat levels in milk.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife Irene; five children, sons Gene (Kathy) Mikkelson and Doug (Cindy) Mikkelson and daughters Jacelon (Ron) Bunger, Kathy (Mark) DeKock and Nancy Mikkelson; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; his brother, Ralph (Barbara) Mikkelson; and nieces and nephews.
