Lifeguard certification class set for Oct. 4-6

The Newton YMCA has scheduled lifeguard classes for October.

During the class, individuals will receive certification in Red Cross lifeguard training, CPR and AED for the professional rescuer and first aid. Students must be at least 15 years old and be able to pass a pre-test (swim 300 meters using front crawl and breaststroke, swim to a depth of 10 feet to retrieve a 10 lb. object and swim it back 20 meters) before taking the class.

Classes are from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4; 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5; and 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 6. Participants must attend the entire class time to pass the course. Cost is $125 for members and $160 for non-members. Students can register at the Newton YMCA’s front desk. Space is limited.
