Piecemakers Quilt Guild to start new year

The Piecemakers Quilt Guild will start its new year with a monthly meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday at St. Luke United Methodist Church.

The guild board will furnish drinks and snacks. Members are ask to bring an old quilt and will share the history behind it. Dues of $15 are due.

During the past year, the Newton guild has furnished quilts for several organizations, including the following: four quilts for the dialysis center at Skiff Medical Center, 32 quilts and 40 walker bags to Nelson Manor, 10 quilts to Veterans Hospital Chemo Therapy Unit in Des Moines, six quilts to Quilts For Kids, 10 quilts to Those Loving Children in Newton and 12 quilts to the tornado victims in Moore, Okla. The guild also has on hand one quilt of valor and one large quilt to be donated for a community fundraiser. The guild also has made several fleece pads for cages for the Jasper County Animal Rescue League.
