CMB cross country teams finish top-5 at Greene County

Colllins-Maxwell/Baxter’s cross country teams each had top-5 finishes at the Greene County Cross Country Invitational on Thursday.

The girls finished third overall with 89 points, behind South Hamilton with 42 and Panorama with 46.

Chasity Moody was the top-finishing CMB runner, finishing 14th overall with a time of 17 minutes, 48 seconds. Heather Jessen was right behind her in 15th. Chantel Maxwell was 21st (18:15). Stephanie Twohey was 24th (18:18). Winter Brown finished 25th (18:22). Mackenzie Klemme was 30th (18:53) followed by 31st (19:07).

“Very pleased with how we ran tonight at Jefferson,” CMB coach Jerry Meinerts said. “Every girl on our team ran their fastest time of the season. We just aren’t in ‘race shape’ yet. We had to really adjust their workouts due to the recent heat, and once we get a few races under our belt and a few more tough workouts, then we will really see our times drop.”

The Raider boys took fifth overall with 125 points, behind Panroama (70), Ogden (93), South Hamilton (101) and Des Moines Christian (105).

Mark Deutsch was fifth overall (18:26). Colin Thomson was 11th (18:48). Calvin Jones took 34th (20:09). Eric Hall Flooden (20:47) followed by Drake Caple in 44th. Brock

“Like I said with the girls team, we are just not in ‘race shape’ yet,” Meinerts said. “Our guys looked really good through the first two miles, then started falling back a little toward the end of the race. They were competing hard, but we just need to condition some more and get ready to race that last mile.”
