Search suspended

DES MOINES (AP) — Authorities say they have suspended their search for a Perry man who jumped off a boat into Saylorville Lake, north of Des Moines.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office said Wednesday that authorities utilized all possible efforts and resources to find 22-year-old Luis Carlos Cuadra. Several agencies cooperated in the search, and dive teams and boats with sonar gear were deployed.

The office says it was notified about the incident a little before 5:30 p.m. Tuesday. Witnesses say the man leaped into the water off a pontoon boat near the Cherry Glen boat ramp and didn’t surface. Searchers scoured the area into the night’s darkness but didn’t find the man or his body.

Boats will continue to patrol the waters daily searching the area.
