An open house is planned for 9 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, at Pella Christian High School to celebrate reaching the goal of a debt-free campus.
In July 2005, the Pella Christian board voted unanimously to move forward with construction and fundraising plans for an entire new campus on a 43-acre plot of land just outside the Pella city limits. An aggressive “Upon This Rock” financial campaign ensued among parents, grandparents, alumni and the community.
As the fundraising efforts developed into branch campaigns focusing on particular aspects of the building and grounds, sometimes including matching-gift challenges, the board and constituency rejoiced when the staff and student body moved into the new building and began classes on Jan. 4, 2008. As fundraising continued, work progressed on the outdoor facilities and landscaping over the next four years.
The celebration will feature a short presentation at 10:30 a.m. in the chapel/auditorium. For those who have not had opportunity to tour the building and campus, tours will be available in both the main building and the sports building on the east end of the campus. The public is welcome to attend.
