School Bus Safety

Image 1 of 2

The Iowa State Patrol partnered with Newton school transportation department to start the school year off by teaching school bus safety to all the kindergartners in the district. Sr. Trooper Doug Cutts, along with bus drivers Steve Hartz and Leroy Reinhart, taught the kids how to get on and off the bus and what to do in a emergency. Drivers need to remember the flashing yellow lights mean to slow down, while the flashing red lights and stop arm mean drivers must come to a complete stop. Failure to do so can result in a ticket, which requires a court appearance. The owner of the vehicle is responsible if the driver cannot be identified.
