McKeever Cemetery Walk

Larry Hurto points to the grave of Jacob Binkerd (1841-1921) a Civil War Union soldier and mineral well driller who was mistakenly buried under a Confederate headstone until the 21st century.

Kevin Williams tells the story of Faye Pierce (1890-1970) at McKeever Cemetery on Sunday. Pierce was a farmer in northwest Colfax who was known for being a colorful collector and for standing on his head at parades and events. The Jasper County Historical Society and the Colfax Historical Society hosted a historical cemetery walk in which actors told the stories of eight area residents buried at the cemetery, located two miles north of Colfax.
