Friedman latest write-in candidate for school board seat

Robyn Friedman is the latest write-in candidate for the Newton Community School Board of Education’s four open seats.

Like fellow write-in candidates Travis Padget and Darrin. T. Hamilton, Friedman’s campaign was launched via Facebook. Friedman’s page “Robyn Friedman for NCSD School Board” was launched on Sunday.

In a post on the page, Friedman states why she should be elected.

“The most important reason to vote for Robyn Friedman is her proven passion for supporting our schools. Through her many years of leadership in PTA, Robyn has showed an abundance of energy at bringing creative new opportunities to our schools for our students and teachers. Robyn has been instrumental in the success of TJ and WW PTA’s collaboration, started new annual events Run into Fall and the Spelling Bee, provided creative fundraising ideas to implement the purchase of technology equipment, playground equipment, and provided endless hours of listening ears to parents, students, and educators. Robyn has agreed to this write-in campaign after a combination of events: hearing Superintendent Bob Callahan’s vision and witnessing his passion, receiving calls from community members asking her to serve, and most importantly the support of her family.”

Four seats are open and incumbent board members Andy Elbert and Sherri Benson are seeking reelection as is former board member Joe Kligensmith, all of whom are on the ballot. Friedman, Padget and Hamilton are the current known write-in candidates.

The election will be held on Sept. 10.
