Lois, the daughter of Edward McNew and Alice Belle Drake McNew, was born Jan. 11, 1934, at Mary Frances Skiff Memorial Hospital in Newton. She grew up in Newton and attended Newton schools.

She was united in marriage to Robert Lawrence Hinshaw of Kellogg on June 13, 1952. They made their home in Newton from 1952 to late 1961, when they moved to Kellogg, where they resided the rest of their lives.

Lois is survived by her six children, Tommy (Debra) of Lawrence, Kan., Terry (Pam), Kellogg, Tenny (Christine) of Kellogg, Tracy (Bobbie Russie) of Des Moines, Cindy (Robert Ball) of Newton and, Scott (Colleen Baker) Des Moines; 13 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; and her sister, Marjorie Belle Eilander Holmes.

Lois was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and three brothers, Charles, James and Kenneth McNew.

Lois was passionate about genealogy, her own and others’, and collected a wealth of historical information on area families, including extensive documentation on Our Silent City Cemetery of Kellogg. She was instrumental in providing gravestones for graves that had none. She gave volunteer service to the Kellogg Historical Society Museum, scanning and restoring vintage photographs and doing research.

Lois will be remembered for her dynamic personality along with boundless compassion for others. She showed great self confidence and determination in any project she tackled, and accomplished all things she set out to do.
