Local winners at the Iowa State Fair

• Plesasant Valley Farm of Newton wond 10th place for the in the herdsman division at the conclusion of the Dairy Cattle show.

• Amber Weltha of Baxter won sixth place and 14th place for yearling ewe and fourth place for pair of yearling ewes in the Southdown Sheep Show.

• Clayton Weltha of Baxter won 11th place for yearling ewe in the Southdown Sheep Show.

• Emily Miller of Newton won third place in the western pleasure — riders 14 and under division of the Open Western Horse Show.

• Dakotah Osborn of Newton won fifth place for junior heifer calf — March 1 to May 31, 2013 and 11th place for senior heifer calf – Sept. 1 to Nov. 30, 2012 in the Ayrshire Dairy Cattle show.

• Demi Osborn of Newton won 13th place for junior heifer calf — March 1 to May 31, 2013 and sixth place for junior 2-year-old cow – March 1 to Aug. 31, 2011 in the Ayrshire Dairy Cattle show.

• Iow-Shire of Newton won fifth place for junior yearling heifer – March 1 to May 31, 2012.

• Ryan VandenKamp of Prairie City won second place for 50’s-58’s 3/8 and 1/4 blood combing: natural in farm flock fleeces in the Wool Show.

• Doug Durant of Baxter won third and fourth place for 50’s-58’s 3/8 and 1/4 blood combing: natural in farm flock fleeces in the Wool Show.

• Jase Aldridge of Kellogg won first place for shag bark hickory nut in the Edible Nut division of the Vegetable Crops competition; fourth place for container grown herbs in the Herb’s Herbs and Culinary Herbs divisions of the Vegetable Crops competition and second place in the Sunflower division of the Vegetable Crops contest.

• Kurt and Becky Konek of Monroe received fourth place from judge A and seventh place from judge B in the youth walk-trot: 10-18 in the Iowa State Fair Quarter Horse Show.

• Jacob Van Manen of Kellogg won third place for Jalapeno Pepper in the Hot Pepper and Hot Pepper Plant in Patio Container divisions of the Vegetable Crops competition.

• Gerald Leffler of Monroe won second place in the Iowa Ameteur championship class and fourth place in class B of the evening open class singles of the Horseshoe Pitching Tournament.

• Randy Clark of Monroe won second place in class B of the afternoon open singles and fifth place in class A of the evening open class singles of the Horseshoe Pitching Tournament.

• Ron Tangeman of Monroe won first place in class C of the afternoon open singles and first place in class B of the evening open class singles of the Horseshoe Pitching Tournament.

• Gary Nolin of Monroe wond fifth place in class C of the evening open class singles of the Horseshoe Pitching Tournament.

• Drew Johnson of Monroe claimed second place in the 13-18 age division in the Youth Checkers Tournament.

• Noah Henkenius of Monroe received third place in the 13-18 age division in the Youth Checkers Tournament.

• Sarah Vanderploeg of Prairie City won third place in other baked items in the Trust Your Recipe to Gurley’s competition.

• MHW Farms of Colfax won first place for shorn yearling ram, fourth and sixth place for yearling ewe, third place for pair of yearling ewes, fourth and sixth place for January ewe lamb, fourth place for pair of ewe lambs and second place for flock in the Dorset Sheep Show.

• Collin Kelly of Monroe won fifth place in the Children’s Joke Telling contest.

• Bonnie Swalwell-Eilert of Newton won first place in the Ladies’ Husband Calling contest.

• Sandra Swalla of Newton won second place in country pleasure western: 18 and over and third in open wester pleasure: 18 and over in the English Society Horse Show.

• Phyllis Olson of Newton received honorable mention in the Memories for Myrna dessert contest.

• Frank Hashman of Newton and Deb Davis of Ankeny won first place in the two players Pro-Am Championship Class of the Horseshoe Pitching Tournament.

• Ron Tangeman of Monroe and Gerald Leffler of Monroe won second place in class B in the two players Pro-Am division of the Horseshoe Pitching Tournament.

• Randy Clark of Monroe and Candy Amyx of Monroe won fourth place in class B in the two players Pro-Am division of the Horseshoe Pitching Tournament.

Alexandra Cleverley of Newton won Champion Pony Breeds, first place in 1, 2 and 3 year old pony, first place in large aged ponies and fourth place in Pony western pleasure in the FFA Horse Show.

Shania Roush of Newton won fifth place in 4 to 5-year-old Junior Horse Western Pleasure in the FFA Horse Show.
