Mingo man sentenced to 25 years in prison for sexual abuse of child

Michael Scott Allen, 38, of Mingo was sentenced to 25 years in prison for second degree sexual abuse.

Allen was initially charged on April 29. He entered a plea of guilty on June 17 to the charge of second degree sexual abuse.

Scott was arrested on April 27 after law enforcement officers reported that Scott told three witnesses that he had performed a sex act upon a child and forced the child to perform sex acts upon him. A protection order was issued the day after his arrest.

Prior to the pronouncement of his sentence, the mother of the victim made a statement to the court.

“I used to think that I needed to know the complete truth,” she said, “but now I know I just need to be there for my children.”

The state recommended to the court that Allen serve 25 years in prison. He will not be eligible for parole until he has served at least 70 percent of his sentence, which would be 17 years and six months.

If released, Allen will be on probation for the rest of his life. Additionally, he is required to register as a sex offender and give the State of Iowa a DNA sample.

Also prior to sentencing, Allen made a statement to the court.

“I’ll prove all of you wrong,” Allen said. “I’ll be a better man at the end of this than I was at the beginning.”
