Jasper County Board of Supervisors have light agenda for Tuesday

Jasper County IT Director Celia Robertson will present the Jasper County Board of Supervisors with three bids on Tuesday for some technology upgrades.

The audio/video items she is requesting would be a part of the Jasper County Emergency Operations Command Center. The EOC would be used to coordinate emergency or disaster management in case such a situation occurred. Robertson also said the room would be used for training and meetings.

Pella-based Digital Solutions Inc., has the low bid of $25,966.75. The bid is more than $15,000 cheaper than the next lowest bid and includes labor.

The EOC building is located within the former Iowa National Guard Armory at 1030 W. Second St. S.

The board will also vote on permitting a liquor license to a non-county based business. Coralville-based Backpocket Brewing LLC, is seeking permission to sell and provide samples of its product to RAGBRAI participants outside of the Monroe stop.

In a letter to the board, the company stated:

“We appreciate your consideration for this license. We understand that having RAGBRAI come through Jasper County is a great opportunity. We want to be clear about what our goal is. We see this as an opportunity to show the riders of RAGBRAI what Iowa has to offer for craft beer.”

“We understand RAGBRAI is great for the local businesses and in relation to us, the local bars. Our intention is promote our product. We will provide handouts to the riders that inform them of the locations within the local towns that carry our brand.

“We will set up miles away from main towns, limit the number of beers that we sell to riders, and if we are successful; donate a percentage of our profits to Jasper County.”

In the final item of significant business, Jasper County Sheriff John Halferty will be seeking approval for his office’s quarterly and yearly reports. The quarter and the fiscal year both ended on June 30.

The office began the previous fiscal year with a balance of $46,487.71 and is ending it with a balance of $24,497.27. The total receipts were $1,138,062.40, and the total for disbursements was $1,160,052.84.

Some of the biggest receipts included $32,500 from concealed weapon permits and $68,600 for city law enforcement.
