Smith One, Two Finish in the Big Ticket Clash at Marshalltown

MARSHALLTOWN — The  start to a busy month of July at the Speedway roared to life as  the Big Ticket Clash Stock Car Shootout took place. The Big Ticket Clash was the first of three consecutive nights for the Stock Car Shootout Series.

Brad Chandler lead the first two laps in the I.M.C.A. Sport Compacts feature before Adam Gates snuck by on lap three. Gates cruised on to the easy win with Brad Chandler finishing second. David Moorman came home third, Bill Whalen Jr. was fourth and Merv Chandler finished fifth.

In the the IMCA Hobby Stocks feature, it was Devin Smith leading from start to finish in the 15 lapper with the only thing slowing him down was lap traffic. Brandon Pruitt worked his way from the sixth starting position to finish in the runner-up spot. Nick Murty, Eric Stanton, Garrett Eilander and Austin Luellen rounded out the top five.

The I.M.C.A. SportMods 25 lap feature saw Jared Van Deest grab the lead and began to pull away until on lap eighteen of twenty-five, lap traffic slowed him down which allow Travis Peterson to chase down Van Deest. Van Deest held off challenges until the last lap and Peterson snuck around Van Deest to grab the win in the green-to-checkered. Van Deest finish a close second. Ty Luellen and Matt Lettow finish third and fourth. Clint Luellen finished in fifth after starting 12th.

Final Feature of the night was the I.M.C.A. Stock Cars feature and it was Jay Schmidt grabbing the early lead. Schmidt however saw the caution come out on lap four twice and this forced a restart where he had to deal with Donavon Smith and Damon Murty, two former Stock Car Shootout Winners. Schmidt held them off initial but the caution waved again on lap six when Steve Meyer and Derek Reimer got together in turn four. Schmidt again held off Donavon Smith, Murty and David Smith until the caution on lap eight. On the restart, Schmidt and Donavon Smith battled it out and it was Smith getting by on lap ten. Smith got a great restart after the caution on lap thirteen to go on and take the win. David Smith grabbed second, Trent Murphy finish third, Jay Schmidt was fourth and Damon Murty came home in fifth.
