Cover crop information meeting to be held July 9

Jasper County USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service is announcing a cover crop information ieeting held jointly with the Marion County USDA NRCS office starting at 5 p.m. July 9 at the Marion County Extension Office, 210 N. Iowa St. in Knoxville.

The meeting will include a presentation by Rick Bednarek, Iowa NRCS state soil scientist, on the use of cover crops to improve soil health, improve yields and reduce soil erosion. A local farmer panel including Joe Kriegel of Grinnell, Gordon Wassenaar of Prairie City and Jim Petersen of Knoxville will address their experiences with the use of cover crops, followed by a question and answer session.

A light supper will be provided compliments of the sponsors starting at 6 p.m. followed by the farmer panel. Sponsors will be present.
