Opfer, DeVries receive 4-H scholarships

Two Jasper County high school seniors have received $500 4-H scholarships awarded by the Jasper County Youth Committee and the Iowa State University Extension of Jasper County.

Elissa Opfer of Colfax is a nine-year member of 4-H and has been active in the equine, cat, photography, visual arts and communication areas of 4-H. Opfer plans to attend the University of Iowa and major in anesthesiology.

Jodie DeVries of Prairie City is a nine-year member of 4-H who has been involved in beef, poultry, music, food and nutrition, child development, photography and the visual arts areas of 4-H.  DeVries’ future plans include attending DMACC in Ankeny and pursing a degree in ag business and management.

Both girls are members of the Jasper County 4-H Council and have exhibited outstanding communication, citizenship and leadership skills.
