South Skunk Blues Society keeps blues alive through the summer

Summer is here, it seems, and it’s time to go see some cool blues brought to Newton by the South Skunk Blues Society.

Saturday, Bob Dorr and the Blue Band takes the stage at the Fore Seasons Gold and Practice Center at 9 p.m.  The show is sponsored by the Newton Senior High School Class of 1978. Bob is always lots of fun, and what a band he brings along! Bob is a living legend in the Iowa Blues scene!

How about coming out to see the Avery Brothers do one of their last gigs?  You’ll need to come to Bike Night in Baxter at Cadillac Jack’s on Wednesday, June 26 at about 6 p.m. to catch the show.

The next meeting of the South Skunk Blues Society will be Monday, June 24 at the Maytag Park Bowl area. Withplenty of activity going on now, it’s a prefect time to join as a volunteer, become a sponsor or a member of the Blues Society.

The South Skunk Blues Society has begun its sponsorship renewal drive and is pleased to report that it is receiving a favorable response from those it has contacted.

The Society would like to thank the Arts Connection, which has again renewed its sponsorship, as has Revolution Cycle, Riggs Printing, and Thrivent Financial.  A new sponsor, the Dental Practice in Newton, has become a supporter. A big thanks to all the Society’s sponsors for helping keep the blues alive.
