Local veterans invited to be in Fourth of July parade

All honorably discharged and active military veterans are invited to walk or ride in Newton’s 2013 Fourth of July parade.

The goal is to have 300 to 500 veterans following behind the colors. Participants should meet at 8:30 a.m. on the east side of the old Maytag office building parking lot at the corner of West Fourth Street North and North Second Avenue West.

All Honor and Freedom Flight attendees are asked to wear their caps and T-shirts if possible. Free hog dogs and hamburgers for veterans and their immediate family members will be served at the American Legion Post 111 following the parade. For more information, contact Larry Lint at (641) 521-1291.
