DES MOINES (AP) — Investigators hope an autopsy will provide key information on what caused a crash in Polk County.

The Des Moines Register reports that the body of 53-year-old Kendall Johnson, of Rhodes, was found in his car around 8:40 p.m. Tuesday.

Investigators say it appears Johnson’s car struck a horse on a roadway northeast of Bondurant. The horse carcass was found in a nearby ditch, and tire tracks show the car went across the ditch, then a field and into a yard before it stopped at the base of a tree.
