City administrator has case of rose-colored glasses

To the editor:

Our city administrator has a case of rose-colored glasses. Where are they? In this case, who has the money and who has the jobs?

I wonder where he he gets his ideas of a new Newton when we are scrambling to keep what we have together. Since Maytag has left, we have needed some “real” jobs and they just aren’t there.

Sure, we have TPI, but even that doesn’t pay what Maytag did, and it’s the only one here that pays anything close. Most everyone has to go out of town now.

Stores downtown are slowly leaving and I just hate it.

That was a highlight of my weekend as a child, when my dad and I would walk hand in hand downtown around town. As a teenager, I went to Biglows, and then in high school, I went to the Maid-Rite. Everyone wanted to work there!

Our future is not the same. We have houses for sale all over Newton and hardly need a new development we cannot afford. We have real estate agents who can tell you that.

Our Speedway cannot keep up with it’s end. We need jobs and Industry. Not developments.  We need to cut down and build up what we have.
