June is National Dairy Month and what a great way to start the summer! Check out the refrigerated section of your local grocery store, and you will certainly find dairy foods dominating the shelves. Now is the time to remind yourself of the delicious ways to make dairy foods a part of your healthful eating plan.
Milk is an excellent source of calcium as well as protein, riboflavin, vitamins A and D, phosphorus, potassium, magnesium and other vitamins and minerals. The fat content does not necessarily change these nutrient values. Choose low-fat or non-fat varieties. Look for lactose-reduced or lactose-free milk if you are sensitive to lactose.
