Reader: thankful, proud to be Newton native

To the editor:

Newton is a great city to live in. There is a lot of community support, great schools and good people.

We have lived at our home for almost 10 years. I have raised, and have some of my children, and my grandson, here in my home. We live on East Eighth Street South and Southampton Court.

I can’t say enough about my great neighbors who surround us. It’s been kind of tough raising my children as a single parent. I have been having some health issues, and our home has deteriorated over the years.

It’s hard to fix things when you have a limited income. But we try to think positive and the negative things in life seem to work out.

When our home has needed some repairs, and things break down, but my neighbors, Gary Classeman, the Rivers — Greg and Deb — Denny, Steve and Maggie — the owners of the Mississippi Queen BBQ — and Doug and Karen, have all chipped in over the years to help us.

A big thank-you to those great neighbors; they have helped us a lot. They have helped me fix things, donated lumber and flowers, and donated their time to make things better for my family. When my dog gets loose, they go out of their way to return her.

I also have to mention the students who donated their time to help paint our home. What a great bunch of kids to help out a stranger to make life a little better for us and the community. Also a big thank-you to Mrs. Sarah Patterson; she stepped up to organize the students from Newton Senior High School for Red Pride Service Day.

It truly is a blessing to have great neighbors and friends, community support, and my family’s help for the past 10 years. From the bottom of my heart, and my children’s, thank you for your help and support.

I am proud to be a Newton native. Newton has a lot of great people who live here. There’s a lot of community pride and spirit.

Thankful and proud to be a Newton native,

James Sutton and family
