Tango trio, ‘The Trock’ Dancers saunter onto Des Moines stages

Tickets now on sale for all-male comedic performance

DES MOINES — Des Moines Performing Arts welcomes the Hector Del Curto Tango Trio and Les Ballets Trockdero de Monte Carlo, an all-male dance company, to the Civic Center for the final shows in the Prairie Meadows “Live at the Temple” concert series and the 2012-2013 Des Moines Performing Arts Dance Series.

Known affectionately as “The Trocks,” Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo is a company of professional male dancers performing the full range of the ballet and modern dance repertoire, including classical and original works.

The Trocks will perform at the Civic Center at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Comedy is achieved as dancers incorporate and exaggerate the foibles, accidents and underlying incongruities of serious dance. The fact that men dance all the parts — heavy bodies delicately balancing on toes as swans, sylphs, water sprites, romantic princesses and angst-ridden Victorian ladies — enhances, rather than mocks, the spirit of dance as an art form, delighting and amusing even the most knowledgeable dance aficionados in the audience.

In addition to the May 21 performance, The Trocks dancers will also conduct master classes for area dancers ages 12 and up. This unique artist-to-artist opportunity connects preeminent dancers in the field with those in the Des Moines community.

Designed to best serve the varying levels of dancers, students at an intermediate/advanced level will learn basic technique and style, while those at the professional and pre-professional level will take a more in-depth exploration of the company’s technique.

Classes will be offered on Monday. Cost is $25 or $15 with a performance ticket. For more information or to register for a class, visit or call (515) 246-2358.

Hector Del Cutro

Tango Trio

The Hector Del Curto Tango Trio will take to the stage at the Temple Theater at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 25.

Experience the dramatic beauty of Buenos Aires with the Hector Del Curto Tango Trio. Listen to the signature sound of the bandoneon as it sets the mood for the spicy Latin tango. It was Hector Del Curto himself who, at the age of 17, captured the title of “Best Bandoneon Player Under 25.” Even today he continues to wow audiences worldwide with his intricate finger work on the concertina.

With Del Curto on the bandoneon, Alon Yavnai on piano and Jisoo Ok on the cello, the Hector Del Curto Tango Trio will delight and impress with their unique and worldly style.

Now in its fifth year, the Prairie Meadows Temple Theater “Live at the Temple” series offers audiences a unique concert-going experience with a diverse lineup of bold performing artists and songwriters ranging from folk to jazz to world-music.

Organizers call this series of concerts an “amazing music experience” for music lovers because of the excellent acoustics in the Temple Theater and its intimate and relaxed setting.

All performances of the “Live at the Temple” concert series are performed at the Temple Theater in the Temple for Performing Arts located at Tenth and Locust Streets in downtown Des Moines.

“Live at the Temple” is a presentation of the Prairie Meadows Temple Theater Series.
